Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between counselling and hypnotherapy?

Counselling focuses on conscious thought processes, helping you explore emotions, behaviour patterns, and life challenges through open dialogue and reflection. Talking with a counsellor gives you a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings. Whether you're facing stress, relationship challenges, or just need someone to talk to, counselling can help you build coping strategies and develop greater self-awareness. I won't diagnose mental health conditions, but I will support you with practical tools to help you move forward.

Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious mind using a relaxed, focused state to access deeper beliefs and patterns that may be influencing your thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. Both approaches can be highly effective and are often used together for a more holistic outcome.

What issues can be addressed with counselling or hypnotherapy?

Both therapies can support a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Depression and low mood

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Phobias and fears

  • Self-esteem and confidence

  • Habit change (e.g., smoking, nail biting)

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Sleep issues

  • Grief and loss

What happens in a typical session?

In counselling, sessions involve open conversation in a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your concerns and goals.
In hypnotherapy, you’ll be gently guided into a deeply relaxed state (similar to daydreaming or meditation), where we work with your subconscious to support change and healing.

Will I lose control during hypnotherapy?

No. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process—you are always in control. You cannot be made to do or say anything against your will. Most people find it calming and empowering.

Is everything confidential?

Yes. All sessions are strictly confidential, in accordance with professional and legal guidelines. Exceptions are only made if there is a risk of harm to you or others, in line with safeguarding responsibilities.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your goals and the nature of the issue. Some people benefit from a few sessions, while others choose ongoing support. We'll regularly review your progress and adapt as needed.

Can I combine counselling and hypnotherapy?

Absolutely. Many clients benefit from an integrated approach, which allows us to work on both conscious and subconscious levels. This often enhances the effectiveness and depth of the therapeutic process.

Do I need to prepare anything before my first session?

No special preparation is needed. Just come with an open mind and a willingness to explore. During our first session, we’ll discuss your goals, concerns, and decide together on the most suitable approach.
